Hiya, this is Stove here. Is that Sam? |
| Q: |
Oh my god! Stove! |
| A: |
So your the one I met in Ipswich yeah? |
| Q: |
Yeah - thanks for that - you know, coming out and meeting the fans. |
| A: |
That's alright. |
| A: |
You had some questions or me, for your web site? |
| Q: |
Oh yeah, erm... |
|
. |
| Q: |
What are your favourite bands of today? |
| A: |
I like Suede, Radiohead, Manics. I'm quite into Stereophonics at the
moment, and I really like the 3-minute pop tunes Space put out. I don't
really like that much modern stuff really. |
| Q: |
So what are you really into? |
| A: |
Well, I'm a fan of The Police, and I'm a really big fan of The Clash. |
| Q: |
And your favourite Mansun song? |
| A: |
Chad who Loved Me. |
| Q: |
And the hardest to play? |
| A: |
The hardest to play, well I suppose it's ones like Negative and Wide
Open Space, cos they have a really simple sound; on songs with loads of
noise, you can cock up and nobody notices it! |
| Q: |
Have you ever helped write any of Mansun's songs? |
| A: |
Well, Paul writes the songs. Me and Chad did K.I.Double.S.I.N.G. you
know? But we generally leave Paul to do all that. |
| Q: |
Oh yeah, Kissing. Some fans on the internet were trying to work out
who the people featured were - you know like Bill and Hilary... |
| A: |
Ohhh... there was Bill and Hilary, Tom and Jerry, I dunno I can't remember. |
| Q: |
But you wrote it! Does Paul have the same trouble remembering lyrics
- I heard he forgot the words to Drastic Sturgeon on tour? |
| A: |
{laugh}, oh yeah, Paul always cocking up Drastic Sturgeon - he's always
doing that! |
|
. |
| Q: |
I know your doing Reading, have any other festivals
been confirmed yet? |
| A: |
Yeah, Glastonbury is a definite - hopefully it'll be better than last
time - did one song and went home! |
| Q: |
And have you decided on the title track for the next EP? |
| A: |
Yeah, it's almost definitely gonna be Legacy. |
| Q: |
What is your favourite of the new material? |
| A: |
Well, I really like Shotgun... and we've done four tracks at the studio
in the last week, and there really good - yeah, I really like them. |
| Q: |
What are they called? |
| A: |
I don't know! No, some tracks we come up with the name first, and some
we don't. I guess they're 'The tracks with no name', yeah, I like that.
They are really good - in fact they are going to be on the album. |
|
. |
| Q: |
If the band were to do a cover version of someone, who would it be? |
| A: |
Probably David Bowie cos Paul's really into him, or maybe the Bee Gees
- Andie really likes the Bee Gees. |
| Q: |
You've toured quite a way around the world, what is the worst country
you've ever toured? |
| A: |
Worst country? I don't think they've been any really bad countries.
I guess, we did a few festivals in Germany, and noone knew who we were...
so {yawn}, yeah that was pretty bad. |
| Q: |
You sound nakered. |
| A: |
No, it's a habit I have - I always yawn on the phone - I don't know
why! |
| Q: |
'Closed For Business' didn't get very well accepted - what do you think
of it? |
| A: |
We get loads of stick in the press, but we don't care. I mean how many
other bands would dare put out a harpsichord waltz as the lead track? We
just do our own thing, and we don't slag of other bands - so why do they
do it to us? |
| Q: |
Not many bands when they become massively famous - you know, like Oasis,
are there on a personal level for the fans - you know, meeting them after
gigs, phoning them up!? |
| A: |
If people hang around after the gigs - we'll go out and see them -
I mean why shouldnt we? If we got really big, we'ld still be there
for the fans; That's the only reason I do it, is for the fans - if we couldn't,
then we wouldn't do it. |
|
. |
| Q: |
{silence} Sorry, I'm starstruck. |
| A: |
Don't worry. |
| Q: |
Oh, I heard you were doing a little tour to promote the first EP? |
| A: |
Yeah, just six little unkown places - in June. It's just something
we want to do off our own backs. |
| Q: |
I have to ask, what's your favourite bond actor? |
| A: |
Roger Moore. I'm always having this argument with people you know,
cos thay always say Sean Connery. Whose yours? |
| Q: |
Well, Roger Moore as well. |
| A: |
Yeah? No most people seem to say Sean Connery. |
| Q: |
And your favourite bond film? |
| A: |
Spy Who Loved Me. |
| Q: |
I heard you were doing a track called 'Prisoner' |
| A: |
Prisoner, no. Where d'you here that? |
| Q: |
Errr, I don't know. |
| A: |
No, but Paul likes the old tv series, 'The Prisoner', you know, which
is one of the reasons we named the new album, 'Six'. He's also a big Dr
Who fan. |
|
. |
| Q: |
Well, I better let you go. Any last message for the fans on the internet? |
| A: |
Yeah. Continue to write to us and phone the ansaphone. People don't
believe that we'll call back, but we do... |
| Q: |
Well, take it easy Stove. |
| A: |
Yeah, I've got your number, so if you've got any more questions, just
leave a message on the machine, I'll ring you up. Well, see you later. |
| Q: |
Bye. |
